Portland Overnighter

It's amazing what one can do in 24 hours...

After a 3 hours tour in the car..we arrived at Fort Vancouver...the kids loved the reenactments and the guides..One can get a lot for a beaver fur..

Alex and Anna-Maria in an outhouse..Boy does that
make you grateful for modern conveniences..

Then it was off to Multnomah Falls. We first stopped at the Gorge.
There the kids played near the water but not in since
it was freezing cold glacier water..

The Falls were beautiful but soooo crowded..It was elbow to elbow to get to the bridge half way up...

Anna-Maria of course loved poising everywhere..

After the falls we were ready to head to the hotel..
We couldn't find it for awhile..we didn't realize it was
next to the airport..We were so close we had
airplanes landing on our noses..Once you were inside you would
never have known you were that close..great
soundproofing..
The hotel was ultra modern and fun...We
played pool as a family..
(Anna-Maria quit when she couldn't reach have the balls).
The kids played in the pool with Peter while I had quiet time...
We all played in the elevator with the cool floor tiles that
showed imprints of your feet..

Monday was time to play downtown Portland..We headed
to the zoo first. It was so crowded that we lasted only about an
hour and a 1/2. The kids loved the farm part and the Amazon..
I loved the exit part myself...Next stop Powells book store.
Alex drooled over the militarty section and I drooled over the
cookbooks..Anna-Maria just want to leave..We walked around
downtown, did some shopping then headed to the car..On the way out of
town we found the Jamison Square..It is so European with cafes that
surround a park..The kids played in the water and loved it...

On the way home we stopped at the Flaming Geyer State Park
outside of Auburn..We have never been there but it sounds fun..
The geyser was the size of a cigarette lighter but it was
nice to stretch our legs...Final arrived home around 9:30pm..
Now we need a vacation to rest from the last one..

  1. You are like the perfect parent. Come show my kids what they are so desperately missing.

  2. What a fun-filled weekend! It must be nice having your kids older now and easier to travel with. But what am I saying, you guys are always traveling. You've got to give me some pointers, since any trip with the kids that isn't to Disneyland sounds like a nightmare to me.

  4. Sorry - couldn't stand to have a post with such an obvious grammatical error! Looks like such a fun trip. We'll have to give Portland another try.
